Sweet Pepper & Italian Sausage Pizza with Flavored Crust

I don’t do many things normally. In highschool I took my school’s version of home-ec, and when were assigned a final project of planning a menu around a theme, I went a little overboard. Most of my classmates made it pretty simple and chose a “summer fun” theme or a “classic american food” theme. I planned a menu so that every dish included antioxidant rich food. It was pretty intense. I developed recipes and calculated nutrition stats. I didn’t realize everyone else just looked everything up on google… Yeah. I’m a dork. So it makes a lot of sense that I would still sorta do my own thing in college. Everyone knows college students know the pizza and beer combo well. I think I’ve ordered a pizza maybe twice in my four years of college. Instead I like to make pizza. It is so much more delicious! Plus it is way cheaper and you can control what goes into your pizza to make it slightly less fatty. Slightly being the key word. So here is a delicious pizza with flavored crust. This probably doesn’t have antioxidants. I didn’t check this time. Sorry!

  • 1 tube of pre-made pizza dough
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1 clove fresh garlic, minced
  • 2 teaspoons dried italian seasoning
  • 1 cup plain marinara sauce
  • 1/2 cup of fresh spinach
  • 1/2 sweet red peppers, cut into strips
  • 1 italian sausage, casings removed
  • 2 cups shredded colby jack cheese
  • 3 tablespoons grated parmesan
  1. Remove casing from Italian sausage and cut into bite size pieces. Cook sausage in a saute pan until cooked through. Remove heat and pat with a paper towel to remove excess grease
  2. Saute peppers in a sauce pan over medium high heat with a teaspoon of olive oil, until peppers are soft
  3. Roll out the pizza crust on a greased cookie sheet, and roll edges to form a 1 inch crust
  4. In a small bowl, mix melted butter, garlic & italian seasoning and brush over the edges with a pastry brush
  5. Spread sauce evenly over the crust
  6. Sprinkle cheeses over sauce, and sprinkle sausage, peppers and spinach evenly around pizza
  7. Bake at 350 for 20 minutes
